Regression - DRAFT VERSION

Regression analysis is a method of analyzing the variability of a dependent variable based on information available on one or more independent variables. This method allows analysts to understand change in a dependent variable (Y) as a function of change in a number of independent variables (X1,X2,…,Xn). For example, the distribution of examinees’ math scores (dependent variable) can be explained as a function of examinees’ gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status (independent variables). When only one independent variable is used, the analysis is refered to as simple regression. In a case involving more than one independent variable, the analysis is called multiple regression.
